The Life Before Relevance

How do I want to be remembered?

Honest and Authentic
Relevant
Believer in the Power of Prayer

It is interesting that my biggest struggles are also the characteristics for which I'd like to be remembered. It is important to me that I overcome these and be that person who God has made me to be.

In Genesis chapter 12, God calls Abram to leave his country, kindred and father's house to go to a land that God would show him. God was very specific about the things Abram needed to give up in order to follow God's vision for his life. However, he was less specific about where this call was leading him. God was simply going to "show" Abram where he should go. He also gave pretty significant promises about making Abram a "great nation," blessing him and "making his name great." God also offered protection against those who cursed him and promised that in Abram "all the families of the earth shall be blessed." These were promises about WHAT Abram would do and WHO Abram would become.

These promises were HUGE and sounded as if they would take place LONG into the future. In fact, Abraham died before he was able to see these promises fulfilled. God was specific about what to give up and specific about the promises that answering this call would lead to, but God did not give much instruction about how to get the end result, or even where to go when God said, "Go."

Essentially, God was telling Abram that he would need to rely on Him everyday for every move. "Go to the land I will show you," was God's way of saying, "immediately trust in me for your day to day guidance. Move now, and I'll be there to guide you. It's about the journey not the results."

The reference section of my bible has this to say about Genesis 12:1, "The Lord said. None of Abram's earlier life is considered relevant." Hysterical. This is a total confirmation for me about my desire to be relevant. Up until the point in which God calls Abram and Abram "went," his whole life was irrelevant. For me, this means I simply need to answer God's call and rely on him for my day to day guidance to begin my life of relevance.
