Joshua 1:3, 1:6-9
God made a promise to Joshua, the same covenant He made with Moses. Joshua had to participate in the same act of faithfulness for the covenant to be fulfilled. There were three conditions to Joshua's faith, and for his faith to prove strong and for his people to follow him into the promised land, these were absolutely necessary.
1. Joshua must realise that God's presence is in the Land and where God inhabits His people are free to go.
2. The BOOK is a very important part of keeping the people together and because the people have forgotten the BOOK they can't meditate on it. This is necessary for their success.
3. The BOOK brings the Spirit of the Lord to His people. The people inhabit the Land and the Spirit of the Lord inhabits the people by way of the BOOK. Essentially the Spirit inhabits the Land.
God has a plan and promise for our lives. The Land symbolizes this promise. Promise = Land. God created the promise so of course He dwells there. To get to that Land (a.k.a. promise) we must know what the conditions are. As listed above, mediating on the BOOK leads us to the promise. As we read, we usher in the Spirit of the Lord. So as we are inhabited more and more by the Spirit we essentially inhabit the land.
Interesting, yes? Confusing, but of course :)
